Chapter tune: Air Supply – Making love out of nothing at all (or – even better – the Bonnie Tyler cover)
Warning: Mature themes/foul language
That night, when Jared returned from the bar, he found Molly waiting in his room.
“Whoa” he exclaimed “Nice. How did you get in?”. “Your brother let me baby, what did you think? I know you hate surprises, but I can make it up for you” Without delay, Jared grabbed her and led her to bed.
She was always the best sex he ever had, that woman surely knew how to please a man. That’s the reason he still kept those encounters with her, even though she had become a bit clingy and boresome lately. Plus, she was his boss at the bistro so it wouldn’t be the easiest thing to get rid of her and keep his job. His goal to become a five-star chef would be unattainable. He was not an ambitious man really but everyone is entitled to their dreams, right? For now everything in his life went smoothly, and in case she became totally insufferable, he would deal with that problem then.
Afterwards, Molly stayed a little to chat:
“So… I wanted to talk to you about the new girl, Rose.” Molly began the conversation reluctantly. “What about her?” Jared asked. “Look, I know what you are trying to do with her, but maybe it’s not such a great idea to do it.” Molly replied.
“I don’t like where this is going. I believe we had a deal, never interfere in anyone’s business. I stay out of yours and you stay out of mine. Did you think we had any kind of relationship apart from the obvious one?” Jared hissed, apparently annoyed by this, as he perceived it, attempt of control.
“Oh no, I didn’t mean it like that” Molly tried to hide her disappointment “What I meant was that it will be impossible to woo her, I heard the girls talking one day and it seems that she is completely inexperienced, if you know what I mean. And waiting for the one. So don’t waste your time with her.” Molly hoped that this little detail would eliminate his interest in Rose.
But Jared was anything but disenheartened. Really? he thought. Sleeping with a virgin is at the top on my list. “Well, I could be the one to make her first experience unforgettable” he said smugly.
“No” Molly whispered “why won’t you leave the poor girl alone? Wouldn’t you rather have more fun with me?”
Despite Molly’s – admittedly poor- efforts to hide it, Jared knew that she was jealous. He couldn’t put up being controlled so he got up and started yelling at her.
“Don’t think that I don’t know what you are doing Molly. You’re jealous and I won’t have it. I won’t have another Claire in my life, one was more than enough!”
“Way to talk to your boss! You really want to go work at the diner mon ami, and flip burgers along with that loser, Beau Andrews? Be my guest!” Molly attacked.
“Oh so now you’re playing the boss card, how original! And again with the diner!! I swear Molly, say it one more time and I will burn that fucking place to the ground!” he screamed, apparently not caring that his brother was sleeping in the next room. “You know what, I can’t deal with you anymore tonight. Thanks for the services, now get out!”
Molly was mortified. Jared could be really mean, and always knew how to hurt someone’s feelings bad. But she realized that she couldn’t win behaving like that, so she decided to leave it there for now. The truth is, it wasn’t the first time Jared was getting distracted by another woman during the course of their – informal – relationship, but something in his look when he talked to Rose really bothered her. Not that Molly wanted to marry him or anything. He was not the kind of man to rely on or take care of her and her daughter. And he certainly was not the kind of man she would usually fall for. But he held some kind of power over her that she couldn’t explain. And that little goody two shoes, why did she have to come to Sunset Valley of all places? Her thought process was not at its best tonight. “Alors, c’est la guerre” she said while driving away.
PS: I’m sorry that this chapter was a bit short! Also, no Rose in this one, I wanted to show the kind of relationship Molly and Jared have. Thanks for reading! 🙂
