Chapter tune: Skid Row – I remember you
Warning: A little profanity
When Jared finally woke up, he remembered the voices of the doctors and nurses around him, the frantic movement of them in the room, but eventually everything became a blur.
The only thing that would forever stay in his memory was Rose’s face and her soothing voice as soon as he opened his eyes, right before the hospital staff ordered everyone to get out of the room.
In a couple of days, Jared had finally all of his memory back and he could walk a little in his room and the area around it, but the doctors advised that most of the time he should lie down and rest.
Connor and Emma, as well as his best friend Xander who arrived during his coma, decided that they should stay in Twinbrook for a while, at least until Jared was able to leave the hospital.
He even had some visitors he never expected to see in this place.
Rose was there at almost all hours to keep him company.
“I still can’t believe you’re awake! How are you feeling?”
“I’m ok babe. If you count out the fact that my head hurts like hell…and I’m wearing a fucking dress” Jared joked. For a man who recently woke up from a coma, he was in a pretty good mood.
“You know, I really thought I lost you…” Rose said, and that realization made her misty-eyed in seconds.
Jared got out of the bed – as swiftly as he could – and softly caressed her face to dry her tears.
“Hey… don’t cry baby. I’m here now. I’ll never leave you, I promise. I just think I gotta stay clear of those damn bars though.”
“That would be a good idea for both of us” Rose laughed and sobbed at the same time. “Can I… can I hug you? Will it hurt?”
Jared didn’t answer but simply put his arms around her; carefully at first, but then his embrace became more and more intense.
“Shit, I’ve missed you so much” he whispered, right before passionately kissing her.
“Oh man, I gotta stop doing this” he muttered uncomfortably after a little while “I gotta go use the bathroom, I’ll be back real soon, ok? I, uh… I’m so glad you’re here babe. I love you.”
Rose smiled. “I love you too.”
Jared desperately needed a cigarette, so he was trying his best to find a place where he would be all alone to smoke.
Finally his steps led him to a section of the hospital where it looked quite deserted compared to the hectic traffic of the rest of the building.
While he was ready to light up, he heard talking. Someone else was there and they thought they were alone too.
“I’m not sure if I can do it this time Margaret… They are still quite suspicious of me. And we’ll be releasing a seriously damaged person if I switch those files…I don’t know.”
“But this is nothing for you dear, I know you’ve done a lot worse. You’ll be generously compensated… as always.”
“It’s not about that… but he’s your family. And that place is really awful. Are you sure about this?”
“You’re in this as deep as me darling” Margaret said coldly to the nurse. “The elections are close and I can’t risk it. And I suppose you don’t care returning to your previous position at the orphanage? That’s the best case scenario of course.”
The nurse nodded.
“Ok then, it’s settled!” Margaret exclaimed “I’ll arrange for him to move as soon as possible! Let me know how everything goes! Ta!”
What the hell…Oh fuck, Jared thought, as he realized Margaret was heading towards his spot. Gotta run. He realized his only cigarette had fell down anyway, so he started walking back to his room.
Meanwhile, Rose was not feeling so well.
“Hey… are you ok?”
Rose turned to see Claire standing near.
“Yes, thank you for asking” Rose replied. “It must have been all that food I’m eating here, it seems that it doesn’t agree with my stomach…”
“I see” Claire muttered “How long have you been feeling like this?”
“Just a couple of days, but I’m already pretty tired of it.”
Claire just smiled. That dickhead, she thought before she left, having very mixed emotions.
On her way back to Jared’s room, Rose realized she must have made one or two wrong turns, because she definitely did not recognize the area she was in. As she contemplated which way to go, a man approached, staring at her and looking quite baffled.
“It’s… it’s you!”
