2.10 – A moment like this

Chapter tune: Firehouse – When I look into your eyes

Jesse led Skye towards a door that was near enough the bar they were sitting at before, but also hidden in a way; not many people would approach this area anyway.

When they got outside, they were met with a breathtaking view of Bridgeport. It was like the whole city was there, at their feet, surrounded by the color of the dark winter sky, lit up by the stars and the falling snow flakes.

“Wow… Jesse” Skye muttered, completely taken by the view “this… this is beautiful!”

“Yeah… this is one of the tallest buildings in Bridgeport. And this spot never attracts too many people for some reason. Whenever I come up here I feel like I own this city… the world actually. Everything seems so small… you know, I used to come here a lot the few times we performed in Bridgeport back when we had first started the band and it really seemed to calm my nerves… It made me see the world in a different light. I figured it would have the same effect on you” he said.

Skye noticed that Jesse was talking really fast and that his face had become a little flustered, even though it was freezing out there. She realized this was definitely a sign that he was feeling nervous, probably because he considered this outing their very first date. A loving feeling took over her, as well as an urge to help him calm down.

“It’s wonderful… thank you” she said softly and rested her head on his shoulder.

Jesse seemed to relax a little and kissed her head blissfully. Being there alone with her felt right, like everything had suddenly fallen into place. They stayed silent for a while, trying to take in as much from the scenery as possible. They knew the freezing air would make them abandon this place sooner or later.

She turned to face him, her lips forming a playful smirk. “So… spill. How many girls have you brought up here?” she asked.

“Not one. I have been with a couple of girls in Bridgeport, at this lounge even… but I always came up here alone. It never even occured to me to share this place with anyone… until now”

“So I’m the first girl you’ve shown this gorgeous view to? You must have known this is a perfect chick magnet” she joked. Now she was being the nervous one.

Jesse looked her deeply in the eyes. “Skye, I’m serious… This is a special place to me and I wanted to show it to you and only you… I told you, I’ve never felt this way about anyone before. I never thought I would and I never wanted it. And to be completely honest, the way I do feel right now… it scares the shit out of me”

“Why?”

“I don’t know… I guess because for once, it’s like a big part of my happiness depends on just one person.”

“Please don’t say that…”

“Why not..?” he asked, wrapping his arms around her.

“Because… what if it’s over someday? Will you be unhappy forever?”

“I don’t know. I don’t want to think about it. Why, do you know something that I don’t?” he smiled. She stayed silent, looking at the floor. “You know what, you’re right” he continued “it’s too soon for all this, I’m sorry… the last thing I want is to make you feel pressured or uncomfortable. Just… forget I said anything, okay?”

“Isn’t it a little funny” she said after a small pause “we were both kind of against relationships, we both hated each other, but here we are… out on our first sort of date, and you being a perfect gentleman… how did all this happen?”

“But I never hated you, you were the one calling me a jerk all the time! It made me feel nervous.”

“Aww poor baby!” she pouted playfully.

“It’s true! I never was against relationships either, I just never took them too seriously” he grinned “and if you think that I’m going to be a perfect gentleman for the whole night, especially after the way you dressed, you’re very mistaken… milady!”

“Hey, I dressed up for the venue, not you!” she protested, smiling seductively.

The way she pulled his face close to him, made his body wake up again with a burning desire. “Baby, you can say what you want. As long as I’m the lucky bastard who gets to undress you” he whispered.

“Jesse…”

“Shit, I want you so bad… why don’t I ever have enough of you?” he groaned, his hands exploring more intimate parts of her body than they did moments ago.

“Jesse, not here…”

“What?” he muttered, like he just woke up from a dream “Fuck… you’re right…”

“We should get downstairs for a bit, the others will probably be wondering where the hell we are”

“Yeah, we probably should… just let me see something” he said and pulled her into a hug, giving her a longing kiss.

“Yeah… perfect fit. I knew it” he smiled and then gave her a pretty uncomfortable look “Just… just give me a minute and I’ll come right after you, okay?”

“Sure… Thank you for tonight… I feel much better. And not only because of the view” she beamed, before making her way downstairs.

A little later, Jesse was inside too, at the club where the rest of the gang had gone to have a good time. Owen approached him.

“Hey man, where did you and Skye disappeared to?”

“What? I don’t know where she went, I was just having a drink at the bar!” Jesse replied, slightly panicked.

“Okay, okay! So, uh… what do you think about her?”

“Gee, what’s with the third degree man?”

“What third degree? I’m asking you for your opinion about her!”

“Well I don’t have one!”

“Do you think I might have a shot with her?”

“What?”

“Look, I really like her. And I think she might like me too… so I’m calling dibs. I’m gonna ask her out when we return to Sunset Valley.” Owen smiled in a way that sent Jesse to a boiling rage. It was maybe the first time he felt so angry, his mind and common sense had been clouded with jealousy.

No, she doesn’t want you, you prick, she wants me! She’s mine!

“You’re calling what? You can’t do that!”

“But you and Dylan always do that! Why shouldn’t I do it with someone who actually matters?”

“Because!… you just can’t!”

“Oh, I see what’s going on here” Owen said bitterly “just because you made that bet, you are waiting for your prize after the year ends.”

“What the fuck are you talking about? It’s just…”

“No! Save this bullshit for someone else! You think that you’re somehow entitled to every woman on this planet! And the rest of us should just bow to king Jesse’s wishes! Well think again!”

“What? Are you insane? You know what, fuck you! If you’re calling dibs on her, you sure as hell don’t deserve her!”

“Fuck me? Fuck you!” Owen screamed. Neither of them remembered how it all started, but the next minute they were on the ground, unleashing a swarm of punches and kicks towards each other. Some people tried to break them apart, but most of them just seemed to enjoy the show.

Eventually they finished the brawl exhausted, with no clear winner – except maybe in each one’s mind.

“Jesse, what happened? Are you okay?” Skye ran towards him as soon as things calmed down.

“Don’t worry about me babe, I kicked his ass!” Jesse said triumphantly. That’s right, I defended you from his sorry ass dibs, I’m your perfect gentleman, not him!

“Dude, what’s gotten into you both?” Dylan asked Owen.

“Alright kids” Vito talked loudly “Why don’t we take it outside and find out what this is all about? I’m warning you, you will have made up before the night is over”

Aww shit.

  1. Yay, I’m early!
And Lila was right that Jesse took Skye to admire the view with her. I was almost right, because he wanted to have sex with her there, haha. Glad they didn’t, they could have fallen down from the building and it’d have been the end of the story. The view was really breath-taking!
I love how Jesse is protecting Skye and feels so deep emotions for her. I am so glad you do this, because I just can’t with Sam and my hopeless romantic soul hearts each and every time.
But he has to explain it to Vito now…What is he going to do?!

    1. Haha, Sam is causing more trouble than he can imagine, lol!
Jesse is having all those kinds of feelings and sometimes he plays his cards right πŸ˜‰ But other times… ugh. I suppose he has to explain everything now… seems like the jig is up!
Can you imagine if they fell off the balcony while doing it? Lmao!! πŸ˜‚ It would make for a hell of a finale, that’s for sure!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      1. Well, I had to talk to myself whenever I tried to write something differently, because it sounded too cruel. I told myself: “it’s Sam, it’s not you, Sam says those things, you don’t”. It’s so hard to tell your mind that it’s not you speaking, even though it IS the first person. I also kept telling myself: “Sam loved this person after all. I need him to tell he loved them and he just couldn’t resist hurting them” and then I have to tell myself: “hold your horses, girl, it’s Sam”. Needless to say, I keep struggling! I hope you don’t mind I spam your blog with those struggles, LOL.
I laughed when Skye called him a gentleman when he has said “shit” just a moment before. Haha.
I can imagine, that’s exactly what I imagined when writing this comment. I remember a scene from The Infernal Devices. I think it was the Clockwork Princess. So the guy I had a huge crush on, the book guy crush type, was making out on the balcony with his girl, because they had a magical lemonade that spiced up things. Look at that: https://i.pinimg.com/564x/fa/f8/9b/faf89b6833afcf3abf805467b2a01eb4–the-balcony-scene-balconies.jpg So this is what came to my mind as I read your chapter.

        1. Ahahaha, this awesome!!! I guess they did have the lemonade, lmao!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Jesse is maybe an imperfect gentleman after all πŸ˜‰
And I don’t mind, spam this blog all you want! Who are you going to share your writing struggles with, if not for your fellow writers? πŸ™‚ I totally get you on this by the way… sometimes we need to remind ourselves that these characters do not reflect us to keep going!

          1. I totally recommend The Infernal Devices by the way! I read the Mortal Instruments series, but it didn’t touch me the way TID did. These novels were set in the 19th century London full of magic and Will Herondale is my favorite character ever. He was pictured as such a bad boy, but he was a book lover, too. I completely adore his sense of humor. Well, don’t even listen to me, I can talk about Will equally long as I can talk about Marina πŸ˜‚

            1. OMG WILLLLL!!! ❀ ❀ ❀
I was creeping through this thread, and I have to add on that I loved TID and Will, haha. I preferred it to the mortal instruments because Tessa was a more likable protagonist than Clary was at times in my opinion~ Plus we had Will AND James who were both so likable and different… and I think I've said enough XD Hehe, just thought I'd share.

              1. Aww, someone here who understands! Yes, Clary sucked most of the time and Sebastian was rather scary. Will was everything. I didn’t like the ending for TID, though, it reminded me of the meme “why not both?” XD

  2. Yayyy I was right! I liked how Jesse was a gentleman for a moment there, those moments are gratifying to read.
Oh boy. This is not going to end well, if he has to explain the situation to Vito. He seems terrible at lying.
I don’t entirely blame Owen for wanting to take a shot at Skye- they do get along well and he has no idea about the relationship, obviously. But the way he said calling dibs- jeez, dude, Skye isn’t a piece of cake you can call dibs on! Shame on Dylan and Jesse for doing that too. It made me laugh how Jesse was thinking β€˜I’m your true gentleman’ after getting into a brawl πŸ˜‚
    Great chapter!

    1. Yes, you were totally right!! πŸ˜€
I love writing about their moments together ❀ but you gotta have some action too – hence, the fight, lol!!
Jesse can't lie to save his life, especially under pressure! So you can predict how all this will go πŸ˜•
Owen maybe realized that Jesse was after Skye (although he doesn't know what has really happened), so maybe that's why he did it. Still, not cool!
      Thank you so much! πŸ˜€

  3. Oh Jesse…I loved the start of this chapter. He is so hopelessly in love with Skye. But he was honest and told her is scared him. I think it’s time she is honest with him too. She has a ton of secrets it seems. But now, the jig is up. Jesse, you are gonna have to pay the piper. Or Vito. Ugh.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you! πŸ™‚ He is! But now he probably has to admit that to everyone else..! πŸ˜• We’ll see how this goes in the next chapter!
Skye should just trust him and tell him everything… but what if she finds out about the bet? She won’t like it, that’s for sure! πŸ€”

  4. Aww admiring a beautiful view definitely is not something I would’ve thought Jesse was capable of πŸ™‚ He was being extra romantic this chapter~ and I thought he seemed quite mature until the end when he had the ‘dibs’ fight with Owen… But more on that later, lol.
Skye still seems to be a bit apprehensive, and I sense some drama coming next chapter so I hope she doesn’t go back into her shell when it goes down. She’s still very much a mystery…
I wonder what Jesse was referencing when he said perfect fit… did he measure her for something? XD
Back to the fight, haha all the macho-ness of Jesse at the start seemed to be cancelled out by the ‘I’m your perfect gentlemen’ statement at the end; reminding me he’s not actually an adult yet, lol. Poor Owen, it’s like he has good intentions but all of the boys’ mentality when it comes to women is so messed up, ahah which is probably what Skye will think if/when everything comes out into the open next chapter which I’m split on wanting to see or not.
I can’t wait, ahah. This chapter was great! ❀

    1. Thank you so much! ❀
Hehe, the "perfect fit" comment was for how he was fitting into his arms when he pulled her into a hug… I have no idea if that's an expression that can be used for this purpose, lol… it was just a guess (so feel free to correct me anytime)! πŸ˜€
Jesse can be a romantic when he wants to – most of the time – but you're right, he need to do some more growing up… we'll see how this goes for him!
And yup, next chapter will be pretty much the aftermath of tonight… prepare for some drama, lol!!

      1. Oh ok, no that makes sense, haha. I once read a book where a guy measured his girlfriend’s waist with his arms and bought her a dress so I thought maybe something like that was going on here, though that doesn’t seem very Jesse-like XD He prefers taking clothes off I believe, not providing them, lol.

  5. So much drama for one night!
Jesse is right, if you have to call dibs on a woman, then you don’t deserve her. On the other hand, Skye is not a damsel in distress what needs defending. Deep down, the fight may have been more about Jesse’s hurt ego than Skye honor.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Oh, and let me tell you, the night is not quite over yet! Lol!! 😁
Skye is definitely not a damsel in distress… poor Jesse, if only he had let it go, Skye could have handled the situation perfectly fine by herself… but, you’re right, his jealousy and fear about Owen’s feelings resurfaced and clouded his mind… we’ll see how this all goes down in the next chapter! πŸ˜₯

  6. Oh noooooo, Jesseeeee, you dummy face XD you just had to lose your cool and now it looks like he might have to come clean about the whole thing and lose the bet. Yikes.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha, he could have let Skye know about this and let her handle the situation herself but nooo, he had to be the macho man! *facepalm*
Now he might not have another alternative but come clean πŸ˜• We’ll see how this goes – probably not too well, but you never know! πŸ˜‰

              1. Did you think you would miss him in the beginning of his gen? I remember how shocked everyone was. Oh, but you will renew your hate with the generation ending, I’m sure of it. Stilll, we got so used to him, it’s kind of frightening that you can miss such a horrible person, but I know the feeling!

  7. Jesse! He needs a good slap on the wrist. Every time I think he’s made some progress, he does shit like this. There were definitely ways to solve this problem that doesn’t involve a jealous rage or a fight! Well, I guess he wouldn’t be Jesse if he didn’t make silly emotional decisions all the time… (typical man πŸ˜‰ )

    Liked by 1 person

    1. The thing is, Jesse hates being in fights, but his jealousy was so intense it made him act like this… *sigh* Skye was perfectly capable of handling this by herself! Now the time has finally come to face the consequences of his actions… we’ll see next chapter how this goes down πŸ˜‰

  8. Jesse took Skye to see the view? I am pleasantly surprised by our boy! πŸ˜€ He has a really romantic side to him that comes out with Skye and I can’t wait to see more of it.

But then, there was this other incident. He’s calling dibs on her? lol Like she doesn’t have a choice in it? And now, how will Jesse cover what the fight was about? I don’t think he can because Owen is so angry, he’ll probably want the bet to become public knowledge. Which means Skye might find out. Oh dear….. :O

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yes he did! He can be a romantic with the right person ❀ And you'll definitely see more of that side of him πŸ˜‰
Owen screwed up a little… he called dibs because he doesn't want to see Jesse "stealing" Skye away before he gets a chance… too bad for him that this is already done, lol! You're so right about Owen wanting the bet to be public knowledge now… next chapter you'll find out what happens! πŸ˜‰

  9. Jesse really has feelings for her, doesn’t he? It’s cute that he shared the part of himself that goes to see that view πŸ™‚ That fight will get him in trouble tho… How will he hide the truth about him and Skye?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yep, he does! ❀ It's all very new to him though, so that's why he's being so sentimental sometimes..! Well, that and his brooding personality πŸ˜€
Hmmm… maybe the time has come that he can't hide the truth anymore..! πŸ˜• You'll very soon find out what happens! πŸ™‚

  10. I’m glad he showed her that view, instead of doing something else! It’s nice to see that he has a romantic side to him, instead of always thinking about her body. Aah, Owen and Jesse fighting will probably lead to disaster. How is Jesse going to hide the fact that he and Skye are dating?! And it makes it even worse that Skye doesn’t know about it will make it so much worse! What if he says something bad about her in order to get the suspicion off of him, and she overhears? I hope nothing like that happens…
    Great chapter ❀️

    1. Haha, it would have certainly been so uncomfortable if he wanted to do something else!
Skye managed to bring his romantic side outside, but now their relationship is at stakes again! 😦
Maybe he won’t be able to hide it anymore..!
      Thank you so much!! ❀

  11. Their rooftop date was so sweet! Jesse really is making an effort to be a gentleman towards Skye.

I thought Owen was the “nice” guy out of their group. Never thought he’d call dibs on a woman. I’m guessing Jesse and Dylan have had a bad influence on him when it comes to dating.

Oh no, if Skye finds out about the bet she won’t be happy with Jesse!!!

    1. I’m so glad you liked it! The view from those Bridgeport skyscrapers is beautiful, too bad there are not enough buildings with balconies (I had to make that one myself πŸ˜›)!
Yep, Owen did that, I think mainly cause he had realized something was up with those two and maybe he wanted to make Jesse say it!
You’ll soon see how it all playes out πŸ˜‰ Thank you so much for reading and commenting! πŸ˜„

      1. Owen waits for too long before being interesting in Skye . It is hard to compete with Jesse. At least I hope he’ll find a mate that really makes him happy. He so much deserves that.

          1. I hope so because among the three boys he’s the most polite and got a brain so he really deserved to be happy . As long as he continues to assert himself the right girl will notice him.
